The purge review.

The purge a movie, about social commentary, is maybe not the best movie in the world but has an extremely interesting premise. At face value it’s a typical thriller, but the reason I chose it was because of the idea behind it. The movie is about America in the the year 2022, and the america we know is no more. There is no violence or crime, instead once a year the US government allows one single night of violence and crime a year -- Though there are some guidelines interesting enough it doesn't really explain them well but it gives them a nod. First rule is no killing of Government officials ( assumingly the president/leaders. ) and no using of certain weapons ( they use a grade, but don’t explain what they are. But I’d assume explosives? ) Though they go a rather poor job explaining the premise rules and you as the viewer are left to guess I cannot help but find the general thought and plot amusing. It’s one that is apt make you think about the progression of violence. Though parts are poorly executed the idea of a society capable of allowing violence for the greater good isn’t exactly far fetched. The choke hold that the NRA has on the US government leads one to believe that regardless of the school shootings, or various other scenarios that shootings have occurred what will it take for the country to see the misguidedness of our ways. Now out of fairness I do understand the need for guns, and protecting your family but fear and silence can be powerful motivators and I can only see several visceral correlations between this fictional film and the uncertain world we venture into.    “ It's been awhile since the horror genre has made such a forceful comment on the modern socio-political climate. The Purge is more than just an exploration of one family's survival, it's a daring indictment of modern class warfare.” (http://www.cinemasight.com/) Hopefully though the film was weak in spots, it’s general premise can open dialogue for the violence that can be perpetuated in America.
